PAWS is hiring a full time veterinarian to work at both of our high volume spay/neuter and wellness clinics. All positions require at least one weekend day weekly. Experience with high volume spay/neuter is preferred but we will train the right candidate. Surgery days are a mix of 10-14 dog and 10-14 cats. We will help provide training for increasing surgery efficiency. We are wiling to split the full time position into two part time positions if desired.
The PAWS Wellness Clinic provides a means for low income families and animal rescue organizations in Philadelphia to access basic veterinary services for their dogs and cats while providing high quality care. The clinic is equipped with the medications and resources to handle routine outpatient cases including wellness exams, skin conditions, upper respiratory infections, gastrointestinal disease, non-emergent urinary tract conditions, minor soft-tissue injuries, and other preventative care. Cases are typically seen by appointment only to ensure that animals requiring urgent or advanced care are referred to an appropriate full service veterinary hospital. Laboratory services are provided at a reduced cost through Antech diagnostics. The clinic veterinarian is responsible for examining any in-house shelter animals that require medical attention as well as seeing approximately 15 to 20 appointments through the outpatient clinic. PAWS is a very rewarding place to work because most clients genuinely want to help their pets and with our low costs, they can usually afford the appropriate care or we can work with them to find the best alternative option.
Experience: Must possess a valid State of Pennsylvania license to practice veterinary medicine, experience in shelter or low cost medicine preffered.
Skills: Must be personable, able to communicate with and help train staff, and work as a member of a team. Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Additional Salary Information: Part time or relief is typically $40 an hour
PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest rescue organization and only no-kill shelter, and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes ...for thousands of animals each year.
PAWS operates two low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinics serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. The two clinics serve approximately 30,000 pets each year. The clinics serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work.
