Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) in Plainview, New York, has three open general internship positions.
The state-of-the-art referral facility has a staff of 160 dedicated caregivers. LIVS is the largest private referral practice in New York State. Specialty services include Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Dermatology, Oncology, Radiation Therapy, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Cardiology. Some of our advanced equipment includes: an on-site multi-slice helical CT scanner, 2 digital radiology suites, electrodiagnostics, endoscopy, laparoscopy, radioiodine therapy, 3 Tesla MRI, color thermography, force plate/gait analysis, arthroscopic equipment, ultrasonography, intraocular ultrasonography, non-anesthetic mechanical ventilator, full bone-plating equipment (including total hips), diode ophthalmic laser, operating surgical microscope and two phacoemulsification cataract units.
Interns will play a crucial role in all aspects of the clinical setting. Rotations in each specialty will involve close interaction with and/or supervision by the staff specialists and residents. LIVS’ large and diverse caseload which includes dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, rabbits, rodents, reptiles, and pot belly pigs, will provide progressive medical and surgical clinical skills. A rotating schedule includes all specialty services, intensive care and emergency services. Our Emergency and Critical Care Center is opened 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays.
Our experienced support staff is responsible for administering nursing care and performing technical tasks such as obtaining radiographs, collecting lab samples and administering medications.
LIVS is located in Nassau County, Long Island; which offers both the big city and small town feeling. Enjoy beautiful white sand beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and miles of rugged coastline on the tranquil Long Island Sound. Discover charming villages and downtowns, fascinating museums, world-class shopping, top-notch hotels and restaurants, scenic hiking trails, picturesque public gardens, bike paths, swimming, surfing, boating and fishing. All this is just a quick 30 minute trip to Manhattan.
LIVS also directs specialty internship and residency programs. The majority of interns who sought advanced training beyond the general internship have successfully secured residencies or specialized internships of their choice.
Qualified applicants will be considered on their scholastic background, interpersonal skills, level of motivation, and letters of recommendation. The general internship position at LIVS is for a term of one year, starting in January 2018 – January 2019. Consideration will be given to candidates that require a later start date.
