Summary of Purpose: Responsible for medical exam and services provided at the Healthy Pets Clinic (HPC).
Duties (Essential Functions): •Perform medical examination of animals, including but not limited to auscultation of lungs and heart, visual exam of eyes, ears, skin, teeth and rectum •Vaccinate animals according to VMA approved standards •Draw blood samples for testing. •Interpret diagnostic testing and advise pet owners of diagnosis and recommended course of action •Diagnose and prescribe treatment for illnesses and injuries within scope of HPC services •Refer clients to veterinarians for any follow up care/needs and issues out of HPC scope of services. •Take digital x-rays and interpret results, providing pet owners with information and the determined issue and course of action within HPC scope of services. •Perform owner requested euthanasia, providing compassionate service. •Ensure efficient operation of medical services team, including supervising veterinarian assistants and recommending process improvements.
Qualifications/Requirements: •Appropriate accreditation and certifications •License to practice veterinary medicine in Kentucky •Ability to lift and use full range of motion to include standing, stooping, bending •Ability to work independently with little direct supervision •Ability to lead others •Good conflict resolution skills •Good organizational and analytical skills •Excellent interpersonal skills with clients, staff and volunteers
Physical Demands/Working Environment •Frequent bending, reaching, feeling and or handling, kneeling, walking and standing on a regular basis while performing job functions. •Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to and exceeding 50lbs. •Individual will have extended periods of talking and hearing. •Includes working in an indoor environment handling animals.
