Faculty Position in Food Animal Production Medicine

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (12 month) tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Food Animal Production Medicine. PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development. A formal faculty mentoring program is in place. The successful candidate will actively participate in the discovery, learning and engagement missions of the PVM and VCS department. Important activities include: Discovery: Development of an independent research program, with preference for research that complements and builds on current PVM and Department of Animal Sciences faculty interests and strengths (www.vet.purdue.edu/vcs/; https://ag.purdue.edu/ansc/Pages/default.aspx; https://vet.purdue.edu/cpb/ ). Clinical: Providing clinical service to Veterinary Teaching Hospital patients primarily in an ambulatory setting; building strong relationships with cattle clientele and referring veterinarians; teaching and supervising veterinary students, veterinary technician students, and house officers. Learning: Excellent clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction of DVM students, veterinary technician students, house officers, and graduate students. Service and Engagement: Participation in committee work, professional organizations, delivery of continuing education, and other appropriate activities. Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree and board certification or board eligibility in a relevant discipline. Preference will be given to candidates having completed an MS and/or PhD. Successful candidate must be eligible for Indiana licensure and federal accreditation. Candidates should have a sincere interest in developing an independent research program, providing outstanding clinical service, outreach, and teaching. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills, and be able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, house officers and producer clientele. The predominant clinical responsibility will be caring for beef cattle and dairy cattle in an ambulatory setting. Occasional treatment of small ruminants, swine and camelids is required. The successful candidate will participate in primary emergency call; this is currently shared among three food animal ambulatory faculty. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.
