Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholars Program Biomedical Research
The Johns Hopkins University Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology is pleased to offer two Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholars Program fellowships for veterinary students. This is a paid summer research fellowship for veterinary students who have completed their first or second year of veterinary school. Boehringer Ingelheim Scholars will spend 12 weeks doing cutting edge translational research at our world renowned biomedical research university. At the end of their experience, the Boehringer Ingelheim Scholars will present their research at the National Veterinary Scholars Symposium at Tufts University and MIT in Massachusetts.
Eligible host labs are led by proven mentors, and detailed information on research directions can be found on our webpage (http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/mcp/faculty). You will be asked to rank 3 research concentrations that interest you from the list below, and you will be matched with a mentor.
The program starts on Monday, May 20th, 2019 and continues for 12 weeks. The program includes multiple organized professional development activities, so Fellows are encouraged to take vacation before or after the fellowship dates, however there will be flexibility in the start date for students whose academic year ends later than May 20th. This program provides a weekly stipend of approximately $500.
Qualifications To be eligible, a student must have completed 1 year of their veterinary curriculum and have an interest in exploring research as a career. The student need not have previously participated in research activities.
Application To apply for the program, please send 1) an essay outlining your career goals and how this program will help you to better define or achieve your goals (maximum 1 page), including a short paragraph summarizing any previous research projects (if applicable), 2) a list of three research concentrations that interest you (choose from: infectious disease, immunology, cancer biology, genetics, neurology), 3) a resumé, 4) a copy of your transcript (unofficial okay), 5) recommendation letters from two references, and 6) your GPA & Class Rank.
