Animal Emergency Centre
Criticalist. Melbourne, Australia. The Animal Emergency Centre (AEC) is seeking a second full-time, Board-Certified Criticalist to join our team of emergency doctors, interns and residents. We believe a harmonious work environment and work-life balance are important for longevity and enjoyment in any role and strive to create individual roles for people to achieve this. About the AEC: The AEC has a 40 year history of leading the way in veterinary emergency and critical care in Australia. Starting with a single after-hours clinic in Melbourne we have grown to be part of the Greencross Vets group with 12 Emergency and Specialty clinics across the country. Our clinical and managerial staff are committed to providing the highest standards of patient care in a professional and compassionate manner. We believe in life-long learning for all as demonstrated by our commitment to clinical training programs and continued professional development. The Hospital: This position would be split between our Mount Waverley and Frankston, or Mt Waverley & Moorabbinn 24-hour emergency and critical care hospitals, which together see over 10,000 animals per year. Our team across these centres consists of one DACVECC, 2 ACVECC residents, 3 interns, 20 emergency doctors (many with post-graduate ECC qualifications) and 30 emergency nurses. Our Mount Waverley hospital works closely with the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre’s internal medicine, surgery, oncology, dermatology and behaviour specialists. Our hospitals also use the services of a mobile ultrasonographer (DipECVDI), cardiologist (DipECVIM-CA) and teleradiology. Each hospital has a comprehensive in-house laboratory (including hematology, serum biochemistry, PT/aPTT, electrolytes, blood gases, acid-base, glucose, lactate, etc), computed radiology, ultrasound, endoscopy, on-site blood products, well-equipped surgery suites, multiparameter patient monitors (including invasive blood pressure) and mechanical ventilators. Extensive internal reference material (clinical protocols, textbook library and journal access) is also available. In addition to a competitive salary (with 9% contribution to superannuation retirement savings) the AEC offers membership to VIN, VECCS, the Australian Veterinary Association, Wiley Online, AtDove, Improve International and remote record access. Professional indemnity insurance, discounted health insurance and discounts on pet care are also provided. Other benefits include 4 weeks paid annual leave, a continuing education allowance and 1 week paid study leave. A relocation allowance and assistance with visas will be provided. Our City: Mount Waverley is a family-friendly suburb located between the affluent Blackburn Lake district and the cultural hub of Glen Waverley. There are enviable homes, parks and schools. Frankston is the gate-way to Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula and the beachside hamlets of Rosebud, Portsea and Sorrento.

We are flexible regarding the relative proportion of time dedicated to these activities and would love the opportunity to talk to you about how we can build a job that aligns with your professional interests and ideal work-life balance
