We asked our team what they thought the most meaningful thing they got to do at our clinic, and wanted to share this window into the culture with you:
In your search for the right career move for yourself, there are a lot of competing factors that go into that decision. What gets you into the door are your credentials and your salary expectations. What keeps you at a workplace is that you are getting your needs met as far as opportunities to grow, a sane workload, and a meaningful experience with a workplace culture. We are showing you our culture because that’s what we are asking you to join and shape with us, and because we want you to know that we value relationships. We know our clients have relationships with their pets; that much is obvious in the way that they love their fur babies. We build trusting relationships with our client families built on decades (since 1977!) of being present in the community and having a shared vision on how to grow those bonds. There’s one more part of our community that our clients don’t often get to experience fully, and it is the part we are asking you to share with us: Our relationships with one another as professionals and caregivers.
Here’s what we are offering to you:
Training and mentorship: You’ll be working with a team of doctors, technicians, practice managers and assistants, all of whom have their experiences to share and the patience to do it. Like you, they earned their skills by learning from others, and the way we share our culture is to share our knowledge. New graduates are welcome to join us and take part in a culture of exchange. We have two other sister hospitals, and exchanging ideas between them means our mentorship potential is more than just the team at one facility.
Continued advancement in your skillset: We don’t skimp on equipment or investment in our full service hospital. This is not a corporate facility that refers our patients out, nor is this a discount spay/neuter clinic. We want you to use your skills, we look for and support continuous education for our professionals, and we invest in state of the art equipment for your use. We do this because we believe in our team to provide the best care for our clients. They trust us to be there for their pets, and the last thing we want is to say, “We can’t do much for you.”
Competitive pay with a 20% production bonus: We offer a competitive base salary and we support your earnest efforts by sharing back productivity. These are paid out every quarter, and our doctors do earn them. By having a 3:1 ratio of staff to doctors, and using assigned assistants and technicians with doctors wherever possible, we help the doctors be as efficient as possible so that there is every opportunity to stay on track during the work day and achieve your production goals. This isn’t a come on, promising a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow; we want our doctors to earn production bonuses so that we can invest in the hospital’s growth. And so they do, and so we do.
Benefits: Blue Cross Blue Shield health, vision and dental plan, a 401k plan with employer match up to 5%, and life in one of the most culturally rich areas of the country. Plus you will have time to actually explore that feature with a work schedule of 40 hours a week.

Additional Salary Information: Base salary is commensurate with experience. All doctors can earn productivity bonuses based on 20% of their sales and services, which can allow for a much higher annual salary than base. In addition, the hospital pays for Virginia and DEA licenses, VIN, as well as the NVVMA dues that has 4 membership dinner meetings annually. Other benefits include up to a 5% match on 401k, generous insurance packages, and continuing education stipends.
About Hayfield Animal Hospital
Our facilities are located in the Northern Virginia region and have been operating and updated since 1977 with the same owner family. Because we take pride in training new graduates to work with our established professionals, applicants with a willingness to share knowledge and seek professional growth are some of the traits that would make a an excellent match for our team of doctors, licensed technicians, and staff in a dynamic working environment. Each of the facilities are unique in terms of layout and personality, but all are modernized, paperless practices with in-house laboratory equipment (CBC, chemistry, and electrolyte units), state of the art dental equipment (IM3), tonopens, ultrasound, surgical laser, therapeutic cold laser, acupuncture, endoscopy, digital dental x-ray units, and digital general x-ray. In addition, our facilities are each AAHA certified and Fear Free silver status, with those practice ideals becoming our standard of care. Although each doctor is normally based in only one hospital, the opportunity exists to visit and be a part of the sister hospital team when cases or procedures are valuable for learning and/or of special interest, particularly for... exotic species. Please visit our websites to learn more about our sister facilities and start the application process!
