The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 representing over 95,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services, is seeking an Assistant Director, Continuing Education to join our Convention and Meeting PlanningTeam located in our Headquarters office in Schaumburg, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago. AVMA’s mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.
Reporting to the Division Director, this newly created position is responsible for the overall strategy, development and implementation of AVMA’s virtual and digital education programs for AVMA members and stakeholders on AVMA’s online learning platform - AVMA Axon; as well as digital and live CE for AVMA’s annual Convention and Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC). They will work closely with subject matter experts internally and externally to develop and review content pertaining to digital education and the development of new and ongoing programs. They will also work collaboratively with AVMA staff, volunteer leadership, and other stakeholders to develop digital educational programs designed to increase member engagement and satisfaction. Approximately 10% travel.

BS/BA degree in a related field or equivalent experience; MS in Adult Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or Business Administration strongly preferred
Minimum of 5 years of related experience including progressive and proven professional responsibility for the execution and management of continuing education programs, preferably in an association or veterinary practice setting
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with veterinary medicine as well as curriculum delivery, development and evaluation
Demonstrated practical application of successful adult learning practices and techniques along with instructional design experience
Demonstrated experience with the identification and adoption of technology to enhance educational programs
Experience or coursework in experiential learning, e- learning, assessment and evaluation and management of large databases strongly preferred
Must have excellent interpersonal skills, project management, and organizational skills
Must be highly collaborative with the ability to function well as a part of a team and independently
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet multiple deadlines
Professional attitude and appearance
Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills
Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience in logistical administration of education programs
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and work collaboratively with volunteer leadership, stakeholders and staff
