Are you an experienced veterinarian who is looking for a different direction for your career? Are you seeking more reliable hours, a new challenge or less stress and primary case responsibility? Do you love caring for patients but struggle with client communication? Are you a problem-solver who is passionate about patient care and experienced in anesthesia?
Veterinary Neurology and Imaging of the Chesapeake, a privately-owned neurology/neurosurgery and advanced imaging practice in Maryland, is seeking a veterinarian to join our team. The primary role of the associate veterinarian is to perform and oversee anesthesia of patients undergoing MRI in our Towson (Baltimore) location.
Minimum requirements would include either completion of a small animal rotating internship or 3 years of clinical experience. There is little to no client interaction in this role, and it is heavily focused on patient care. This means there are no follow up calls, no records to write, no medications to approve.....we could go on, but you get the idea! This is the perfect role for someone who is passionate about veterinary medicine but maybe needs a break from daily client interaction.
Our imaging program in Towson is launching in the next few months and we need the perfect candidate to spearhead the development of our anesthesia protocols, patient care workflow and serve as a mentor to our staff members about anesthesia and monitoring. This means you are a go-getter with great organizational and communication skills who likes to lead and take charge. We will have a 1.5T MRI (likely GE), along with state-of-the-art anesthesia machines, a ventilator, monitoring equipment (ECG, ETCO2, SPO2, and blood pressure) and WAGs.
The veterinarian in this role will have myriad opportunities to collaborate with and learn from board-certified veterianrians from nearly every specialty. There will be daily collaboration with neurologists, emergency vets, criticalists, surgeons and internists. You must be able to play nice in the sandbox while supporting the needs of the imaging service.
We are located atop Luskin's Hill in Towson in the Pet+E.R./CVRC referral hospital, overlooking 695 with easy-on, easy-off access to the Baltimore Beltway, the Jones Falls Expressway, I-95 and downtown Baltimore. In less than 5 years, our entire referral center will be moving into a brand new facility housing multiple services including neurology, cardiology, surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology and emergency services.
Daily duties include:
Supervision of day-to-day operations in the MRI unit
Pre-anesthesia evaluation for MRI patients
Development of anesthetic protocols
Anesthesia monitoring and recovery
Maintenance of controlled drugs and patient records
Communication with referring veterinarians from within CVRC and sometimes external referrals

Emergency on-call for imaging until a designated time
The schedule is 8am-6pm.four days per week, two administrative days per month (teaching, CE, referral outreach, etc) and rotating on-call weekends and holidays. Compensation includes a competitive salary and bonuses for emergency/on-call imaging.
The veterinarian will be supported by registered veterinary technicians, a certified MRI technologist, technician assistants, neurologists and practice administration. Benefits include a uniform allowance, pet insurance, 401K, health insurance, dues, CE, and paid time off.
DVM, VMD or equivalent
Completion of a small animal rotating internship OR 3 years of clinical practice experience
