VCA Animal Hospitals has a unique leadership and business management opportunity for a Regional Operations Director (ROD) in Southern California. This position is responsible for guiding the development, growth, and operations of a region of Emergency, and Specialty veterinary hospitals—as well as upholding an environment of medical and client service excellence.
The ROD is a key part of a field team that includes the Group Vice President (GVP) or a Senior Vice President (SRVP), Regional Medical Directors (RMD), and other Regional Operations Directors (ROD) or Regional Vice Presidents (RVP). This ROD position along with a RMD will be directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of a region of multiple hospitals.

Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, and give information in person and over the telephone and internet interfaces (such as MS Teams)
Ability and knowledge of utilizing office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, etc. and evaluate and prepare business reports
Must be willing to spend varied periods of time away from home, in out of town locations
Education and Experience:
Proven experience building high performing teams
Ability to multi-task and deal with high levels of stress in an environment of changing priorities
Success in engaging with specialty & emergency veterinarians, as well as Medical Directors and hospital leadership teams.
4-year college degree required.

Complete P&L accountability.
Responsibility for hospital revenue growth and achieving margin goals. Financial responsibility for meeting or exceeding budgets, regular evaluations of services and product fees and for auditing hospital production for accuracy and fee capture.
Driving the strategy of service mix and future service needs in the market.
Understanding the climate impacting the region’s hospitals and aggressively search for ways to market the hospital, doctors, specialists, and services.
Support doctors in marketing hospitals and services meaningfully
Actively participate in appropriate veterinary groups and associations in order to stay current on trends and issues that might impact the business.
Evaluating needs and execute proformas for equipment purchases.
Initiating and actively supervising facilities improvement projects as warranted, including expansion and renovation of animals hospital to increase size and add services.
Leadership/management of direct reports including both Hospital Managers and Medical Directors, inclusive of expectations and performance evaluations.
Ensuring that hospitals have a customer-centric culture and focus
Motivating HM and MDs to continue an “ownership” mentality
Promoting and developing HMs and MDs in regards to business development, exceeding client expectations, day-to-day operations, P&L statement evaluation
Effect timely communications with clients regarding medical and non-medical complaints
Promoting strong relationships with doctors and staff.
Maintaining a strong presence in all hospitals, including frequent on-site visits and consistent accessibility via email and phone
Foster engagement, empowerment, and professional development with DVMs and paraprofessional staff.
Responsibility for effective DVM/hospital team pet owner communications
Responsibility overall HR decisions and workplace quality/culture
Assistance in internship and residency programs. The transition of acquired veterinary practices into your family of animal hospitals Cultivation of relationships within the veterinary community.
