The College of Veterinary Medicine at Long Island University invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Associate/ Assistant Dean will provide leadership in implementing policies and procedures regarding services for students. The successful candidate must be able to provide input into the implementation of the College's strategic and operational plans to ensure continuous growth and improvement of processes that enhance the student experience. The incumbent will have proven ability to promote a culture of diversity and inclusiveness and will interact well with University administration, the veterinary education community, faculty, students, and alumni.
Reporting to the Dean, the Associate/Assistant Dean is responsible for coordination, oversight, and assessment of all student services and activities. S/he will:
Assist in resolving student issues including identifying possible barriers to student success.
Coordinate student support services including tutoring, career services, veteran services, and learning workshops.
Collaborate across the campus to support students, making referrals to necessary central offices.
Work with other offices in the College and University to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of non-academic student services.
Maintain accurate records regarding all aspects of the student services programs from recruitment to graduation,.
Set benchmarking, metrics, and evaluation of all student services that will ensure continuous improvement of the program.
Address complaints and conduct investigations ensuring seamless student grievance and disciplinary procedures.
Meet reporting requirements for accreditation (AVMA/COE Standard 6 Students and 11- Outcomes Assessment).
Coordinate the planning and execution of the recurring cycle of academic events including student orientation, white coat ceremony, student awards ceremonies, and graduation.
Serve as ex-officio member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Academic Standing and Awards Committees.
Other duties as assigned.
The Associate/ Assistant Dean of Student Affairs will work closely and collaboratively with the leadership team to ensure the College achieves its student engagement and retention goals. The Associate Dean contributes to the College's success by developing a holistic program encompassing integration into the university environment, acculturation, student service support, and student success
The successful candidate will have excellent academic credentials, a DVM or equivalent degree and PhD or equivalent doctoral degree and/or specialty board certification with significant administrative experience in a post-secondary educational institution; experience in managing student services in a professional program is required, experience working with medical/veterinary students is highly preferred. The candidate must have demonstrated administrative success in strategic planning, experience in accreditation, assessment, and educational technology; and a commitment to promote community and campus partnerships. Excellent interpersonal, written, presentation and oral communication skills are essential for this position. S/he must have the ability to establish priorities, organize, schedule and solve problems and tasks and to engage in critical thought and analyze all types of quantitative and qualitative data into informational reports and presentations for strategic planning and outcomes assessment. The successful candidate must model appropriate professional, ethical and collaborative behavior that engenders collaboration, trust and respect consistent with the responsibilities of this position.
