Function as a leader with a high degree of knowledge in the fields of DEI and student outreach. Manage programs, formulate strategy, and administer policies, process and resources in support of the school’s DEI mission. Conducts analyses of current structures, policies and systems in order to provide guidance to all levels of leadership with the School.
The SVM Diversity and Outreach Officer is embedded in the Admissions and Student Programs team within the School of Veterinary Medicine Dean’s Office. The Diversity and Outreach Officer will work to diversify the pipeline of applicants to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) graduate program, which is the largest professional program at UC Davis with an annual enrollment of 600 professional students. The program consistently ranks as the best in the world for veterinary
medicine. Additionally, the Diversity and Outreach Officer will collaborate with the SVM Director of Academic Human Resources to execute initiatives in support of academic DEI, as well as the Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital in support of programs to support hospital staff and residents.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Programs, promote a vibrant and diverse veterinary community by developing and administering diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives for students, prospective students, and staff. Lead pipeline development and outreach programs to identify and support potential, underrepresented DVM students. Lead initiatives to advance, integrate and embed DEI into all aspects of the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital. Facilitate dialogue and conversations about sensitive topics. Lead and advance strategies for institutional as well as individual responsibility and accountability in preventing and combating discrimination.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings in support of events and programs.
Work with limited vacation usage during peak workload periods.
Provide own transportation to off-site meetings and events. Some air travel to meetings and presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience.
Experience with project management or event planning and logistics.
Experience in maintaining cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations and other institutions.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility programs and best practices.
Possesses advanced level skills required to gather, organize and perform analyses on DEI initiatives. Presents findings and makes recommendations that are significant, both verbally and in writing.
Interpersonal, active listening and public speaking skills to communicate complex and sensitive information to broadaudiences from diverse backgrounds.
Organizational skills to plan, coordinate and set priorities effectively, work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt tochanging priorities. Demonstrates advanced level of political and organizational acumen.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in related area.
Experience with program evaluation and development.
Knowledge and understanding of UC guidelines, principles, policies and procedures.
Has thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; understands how work affects the organization and community.
