University of Pennsylvania - New Bolton Center
Location: New Bolton, Pennsylvania
Type: Full Time
Preferred Education: Doctorate
The Department of Clinical Studies-New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care (ECC). New Bolton Center is ideally located west of Philadelphia in bucolic horse country with easy access to a variety of cultural and social activities in the Mid-Atlantic region. If you are looking for an opportunity to apply the highest quality of critical care medicine, collaborate in a stimulating intellectual environment, and mentor students and house officers in a team approach that values work-life balance, we encourage you to apply.
The successful candidate will join a team of three critical-care specialists who are enthusiastic about the highest quality emergency care for large animal patients, the education of future veterinarians and veterinary specialists, and the expansion of scientific knowledge. Numerous Board-certified specialists at New Bolton Center support the missions of our ECC team in the areas of anesthesia and pain management, imaging, surgery (orthopedic, airway and general), ophthalmology, internal medicine, neurology, neonatology, cardiology, reproduction, and pathology. Dedicated medicine and surgery interns and residents, support staff, clinical-year students and an ECC fellow round out the team. Opportunities for collaborative discussions abound, stimulated by case rounds, morbidity and mortality rounds, and journal clubs. The New Bolton Center faculty are committed to the concept that critical care specialists offer distinctive, essential expertise that has a major impact on the outcomes for our most seriously ill and injured patients. We are looking for someone who enjoys an intellectually stimulating environment and shares our values of integrity, leadership, respect, accountability, and passion to come join our team.
The clinical responsibilities of the new team member will include senior coverage in the New Bolton Center emergency service, with a mix of weekday and after-hours coverage. The New Bolton Center Hospital enjoys a large and diverse caseload consisting of over 7000 cases per year, of which over 1200 are emergency admissions of equine and farm-animal patients. Appropriate staffing and forward-thinking scheduling for emergency clinicians allows ample time off duty for optimal quality of life and dedicated off-clinic time for scholarly productivity.
Teaching largely consists of the clinical training of fellows, residents, interns, and veterinary students; some didactic and laboratory teaching is required. Focused research leading to publication in refereed professional or scientific journals is an expectation of the position. Collaborative research is strongly encouraged.
The position will be in the Standing Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania, in the Clinician Educator track, which supports faculty members whose responsibilities include the traditional triad of clinical service, research, and teaching. The efforts of the successful candidate will be assigned to these academic areas depending upon their strengths and interests. Applicants must have a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree. Applicants should either be board-certified or board-eligible in the American or European Colleges of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, or alternatively be board-certified in the American or European Colleges of Veterinary Surgery or the American College of Internal Medicine, with demonstrated interest and experience in the medical and surgical aspects of emergency and critical care practice.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A generous benefits package including dependent tuition support is provided.
