At The Farmer’s Dog, we have a direct relationship with our customers who rely on us for their canine needs. The Director of Veterinary Services will be the thought leader and customer-facing expert on all things functional canine health, and will work with our Veterinary Nutrition, R&D, customer service, and digital teams to lead our health-service initiatives. You are passionate about service, and providing dog lovers with the most accurate information on how to best care for their pets. You are a first principles-based, independent thinker with a strong understanding of canine health fundamentals. You strive to stay informed on current research and industry trends while remaining skeptical of misinformation and Big Pet driven marketing and research.
As we develop and improve products and services, the Director of Veterinary Services will be an authority on pet health and collaborate on initiatives starting from R&D through digital product development. You will be our primary veterinarian, partnering with our customer service function, and providing direct service and functional leadership to ensure we can provide the best service to our employees and customers. In order to achieve these objectives to accelerate and support our high growth, you will manage veterinary teams, manage people, and be an effective leader in driving results.
This is a highly cross-functional role that reports to our founders, collaborating with numerous internal and external stakeholders. Because health and nutrition is a core part of all that we do, the work will be diverse; a successful Director of Veterinary Services in this role will be immersed in both the strategic and tactical portions of initiatives.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Partner with our veterinary nutrition and R&D teams to design and test science-backed products
Partner with CX to develop best practice protocols for customer communications around pet health questions and advise customer experience agents in nuanced day-to-day situations.
Manage a team of veterinary experts that will interact with employees, customers, and vets that are reaching out to The Farmer’s Dog.
Advise the development of our new, comprehensive health services platform.
Be an expert resource for our Growth function as we formulate customer retention and acquisition initiatives.
Guide Brand in developing messaging for our products and pet health related content.
Attend in-person and virtual industry events and exhibitions to communicate the effectiveness of The Farmer’s Dog products.
Participate in vet industry societies and organizations
Partner with academic institutions to develop and disseminate novel pet health research
Partner with our Vet Relations function to educate veterinary professionals on the benefits of fresh food and The Farmer’s Dog products and help build veterinary networks.
Be an internal veterinary resource for employees' dogs (they can't wait to meet you!).
We’re Excited About You Because
[8+] years of experience, including 2+ years of clinical experience.
Professional degree in veterinary medicine (DVM, VMD, or equivalent) with a current, active license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state.
You are a direct, caring, and persuasive communicator and establish rapport easily with veterinary professionals and other stakeholders.
You love to roll up your sleeves and dig into the details, but it’s also easy for you to pull up and look at the big picture.
You are passionate about fixing the broken pet health industry.
You have corporate office/start-up experience (a plus!) and stellar business presentation and writing skills.
You have the flexibility to commit to up to 20% travel, dependent on the annual event calendar.
