The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position (clinic-track) for the role of Clinical and Professional Skills Educator.
Applicants must have a commitment to advancing veterinary education through providing excellence and innovation in evidence-based clinical and professional skills teaching, learning and assessment. Applicants must have previous experience in general veterinary practice and would also benefit from background in clinical teaching, adult education, and assessment. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, strong collaborative efforts, and be capable of positive clear and effective communication. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree.
The successful candidate will join the College of Veterinary Medicine Clinical and Professional Skills team as an Academic Director led by the Associate Dean for Professional Programs, collaborating with the Director of the Veterinary Clinical and Professional Skills Program while holding an affiliate clinic-track faculty position within a designated academic department. This team of Clinical Faculty and Veterinary Technical faculty and staff support the educational mission of the college through Clinical and Professional Skills instruction in the veterinary curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to provide support to the Veterinary Clinical and Professional Skills Program by teaching in the skills learning sessions, working directly with a broad range of DVM students in years I-IV. Some course administrative and management duties will also be required including organizing lab sessions, creating and managing online course content, coordinating with other faculty to deliver sessions, and supporting the Director in the general delivery of the overall program including supporting a summer program that emphasizes Spectrum of Care training.
The Educator will work with the Directors of Clinical and Professional Skills, the Office of Teaching and Learning, and the Director of Professional Success to utilize evidence-based teaching methods and will have the opportunity to contribute to educational scholarship. The Clinical and Professional Skills Educator will also work with the Director and the Spectrum of Care Clinical Educator to ensure that delivery of the clinical skills curriculum is consistent with and supportive of our “Preparing for Excellence in Veterinary General Practice” program (https://vet.osu.edu/education/building-preeminence-veterinary-general- practice-education). This program focuses on graduating competent, confident and career-ready veterinarians who are prepared to practice broadly across the spectrum of care (https://vet.osu.edu/education/building-preeminence-veterinary-general-practice-education) and serve an economically diverse clientele while enjoying a professionally satisfying and financially sustainable career.
OSU-CVM faculty have implemented an innovative outcomes-based curriculum this fall that will continue to roll out over the next four years and the Clinical Skills Educator plays a key role in implementing that vision. The Veterinary Clinical and Professional Skills Center is a state-of-the-art education and assessment resource, unique in veterinary education that includes almost 9,000 square feet of educational space purpose-built for teaching clinical and communication skills. VCPSC enhances patient care and client satisfaction by allowing students to practice their skills in this simulated environment before entering the workforce. The Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic provides another opportunity for state-of-the-art communications and clinical skills training through the use of dedicated observation rooms and specially designed examination rooms that help students practice their client interactions.
