ENJOY THE INDEPENDENCE OF A HOUSE CALL PRACTICE WITH THE FREEDOM TO SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY. NO SALARY CAP; MAY QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL LOAN FORGIVENESS PROGRAM!
Come help us create a community-centric house-call practice with a heart. We are starting several Heal Impact Practices in Reno. If you love it and stay for three years, you can expect a significant income increase.
Did you know that 75% of pets in resource deserts have never seen a vet before? You can change that and experience what it means to practice the art of medicine–your way. This is your fresh-start chance to create a legacy of individualized care, inclusion, and equity in a nature-lover’s paradise with great need and opportunity. We hope half the pets in our practice will be from families that experience insecurities, like geographical, age, financial, or language vulnerability.
Each of our veterinarians gets to choose their own assistant and controls their own schedule. Tired of financial euthanasia? Each veterinarian will also have their own fund of up to $117,000 to provide low cost services at their own discretion.
Build a future you can rely on! You’ll receive ongoing operational support from a great team to ensure the practice is profitable and sustainable in the long-term AND the support to treat the clients you love—meaning you have the power to protect your quality of life for years to come.
This full-time position with the new non-profit, Petopia, in partnership with Heal House Call Veterinarian, has flexible hours, mentoring, long-term potential, unlimited vacation, and ownership opportunity. Partnership opportunity with SPCA of Northern Nevada if you miss in-clinic services. Salary opportunities grow each year and work-life balance is emphasized. We know it sounds too good to be true (thanks to our funding partners, it really is an incredible opportunity), so please take the time to learn more and email us with any questions.
The perfect candidate will:
be positive and caring,
want to operate productive and meaningful general house call practice,
love spending one-on-one time with pets and their families,
appreciate a good challenge,
commit to spending part of their time providing subsidized care to vulnerable community members like seniors, veterans, and those with language barriers,
enjoy the opportunity to be a positive role model in the community,
demonstrate strong commitment to inclusion and equity,
and enjoy collaboration with community partners.
Don’t be cramped in a practice that doesn’t reflect your professional style—this one will! We encourage new and seasoned graduates to apply. Spanish fluency or the desire to learn Spanish is a plus.

About the Reno Area
The Truckee Meadows, located near Lake Tahoe, is an area rich in culture, outdoor adventure and recreation opportunities, and wide-open spaces with four distinct seasons, abundant sunshine, and notably friendly people. The Truckee River runs right through downtown Reno, which is a growing and vibrant city in a state with zero income tax! Reno boasts an easy airport, the University of Nevada, Reno, and is only four hours from San Francisco.
About Our Partner, Petopia Inc
Petopia Inc. is the non-profit partner in the Heal Impact Practice initiative of Heal House Call Veterinarian. The partnership combines a proven business growth strategy of Heal with three years of seed funding from Petopia and other non-profit partners to encourage private practice ownership in resource deserts. At the end of an incubation period, the sustainable practice belongs to the veterinarian. Impact Practices promote diversity and inclusion for veterinarians as well as pet parents while they cure care deserts.
About Our Partner, Heal House Call Veterinarian
Heal is on a mission to help veterinarians create the practice of their dreams. Founded by the creator of Petfinder to honor the importance of the veterinarian to healthy communities, the Heal practice model reduces financial risk to the veterinarian, increases their confidence, and provides front- and back-end support to protect and preserve the veterinarian’s quality of life and mental health. This paves the way for a veterinarian to focus on the art of medicine and serve their community, all while providing something the veterinarian craves—the power to practice concierge care when and where they want.
About our Partner, The Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation
The Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation is a private charitable foundation based in Incline Village, Nevada. The Duffields are the founders of Maddie’s Fund, a leading animal welfare foundation dedicated to revolutionizing the status and well-being of companion animals. While the Duffields are long-time benefactors of companion animal causes, the Foundation also allows them to focus their philanthropic efforts in other areas that they are passionate about, including supporting military veterans and giving back to their local community.
