If you are looking for an experienced mentor to guide you on your journey from school to real life practice, we are the place for you!   

Here at Midwest Animal Hospital, we offer individualized, paid externship opportunities for preclinical and clinical veterinary students. We have experience hosting veterinary student externs and we love to foster student growth and development. We believe hands-on experience is the foundation to a successful career, so our goal is to expose you to a variety of veterinary services and real life medical and surgical cases to make the most of your veterinary school experience. You will be paired with a doctor every day so that you can receive individualized mentorship and ongoing collaboration. We focus your time on your specific interests such as dentistry, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and much more. 

During this externship, you will have the opportunity to 

• Perform comprehensive, head to toe exams on patients and give them each the love and care they deserve
• Perform spays and neuters on rescue animals
• Practice technical skills (IV catheters placement, intubation, drawing blood etc.)
• Work side by side with experienced veterinarians and technicians 
• Assist with surgical and medical procedures  
• Use the most up to date medical equipment including ultrasound, digital X-ray, LigaSure, CT, endoscope
• Develop treatment plans, discuss diagnostic test results, and participate in client communication

We are located in Orland Park, Il. Our location provides the best of both worlds due to our suburban atmosphere, but only a short 40 minute drive to the excitement of the city. Student housing options are available!

Requirements:

•       Enrolled in an accredited Doctor for Veterinary Medicine Program
•       Authorized to work in the United States 
•       Available to work days, evenings, and weekends
