Family Pet Veterinary Practice was established nearly eight years ago, as a single vet practice.   Our business has grown over the years – adding a part-time associate in 2019, and a full-time associate in 2022.  Our part-time vet moved on to do mobile work, and we would like to hire a replacement. 

Our philosophy is to be present for our clients, listen to their concerns, and help them to the best of our ability.  We treat our employees, our clients, and our patients with respect and empathy.  Our technicians are cross-trained as both receptionists and treatment techs, and rotate their responsibilities (including anesthesia/surgery/dental) regularly.  We all help each other out to get the job done. 

We believe in a good work-life balance, being flexible with life changes (moving, child-birth, illness) or situations (winter storms, home/car emergencies, sick children, etc).  We have had a high stability in our staff: since 2015 we have hired 17 technicians.  8 are currently employed, 7 moved on to new opportunities (5 with sadness and blessings, 2 not so much), and 2 were let go.   

We are located near downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, and are 0.2 miles from the Washington, DC border.  There are many options for specialists and referral centers in our area.  Our local population, and thus our clients and staff come from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, which we embrace.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, solid organizational aptitude, and an ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and clients.  We are looking to fill hours of up to 3 full days a week (although hours are flexible, and you could work down to as little as a half-day shift).

Order and interpret diagnostic tests.

Prescribe treatments/medications.

Upkeep records (electronic record system).

Option to perform surgeries on small animal pets (not required).
