We’re looking for an enthusiastically motivated veterinarian who is an excellent communicator and has a passion and purpose for exotics to join Specialized Care for Avian & Exotic Pets (SCAEP). We are a boutique-style; primary care referral hospital dedicated 100% to exotics. Located in Buffalo, NY we’re just 30 minutes from Niagara Falls and 2.5 hours from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
You should have minimum one year clinical experience and an internship with exotics is preferred. If you have completed a residency, are board-certified (or board eligible with intentions to take the exam in Avian, Exotic Companion mammal and/or Reptile/Amphibian Practice) you should definitely consider us!
In our 11th year, we have a close-knit, knowledgeable team with excellent support staff and a well-established, highly dedicated clientele. We leverage technology to enhance our ability to serve. We have digital horizontal beam radiography, high-frequency ultrasonography, Storz endoscopy, an in-house lab with full chemistry/lead testing, a local CT partner hospital, and a class 4 therapeutic laser.
Our caseload is 44% mammals, 40% birds, and 16% reptiles/amphibians/fish (reptiles are our fastest growing segment). We treat both pets and wildlife; provide routine wellness and urgent sick/emergency care, with advanced medical and surgical services and offer boarding and house calls. Students and interns/residents visit frequently. See plenty of variety and new challenges daily!
Our full-time doctors work a four-day, 9 clinical hour week with rotating half-day Saturdays and no after-hours on-call. We have a competitive compensation package with great benefits. Enjoy hiking and water activities in the summer and skiing/snowmobiling in the winter all within an hour’s drive.
Potential for ownership for a compatible, intrinsically motivated person.
If you are interested in our location, and opportunities for professional growth, let’s talk!
Specialized Care for Avian & Exotic Pets was formed in August 2008. Originally temporarily located at the Broadway Veterinary Clinic in Lancaster, NY, the service was designed to provide comprehensive primary healthcare and progressive referral medical, surgical and behavioral services for the companion bird, small mammal or reptile as well as urgent care for native wild animal species. We currently do not treat venomous species or wild rabies-vector species (raccoons, bats). We are also able to treat fish on a limited basis. Routine and emergency services are provided during all open hours whenever possible.
We moved to our permanent Clarence, NY location in July 2012. We are proud to be the first practice in Western New York, Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania dedicated exclusively to the care of exotic pets. Since our move, we are also able to provide boarding for our patients. Our clients are seriously committed to their pet’s health and eager to seek the highest quality veterinary care available.
