The Staff Veterinarian is responsible for the health and welfare of the animals at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and aids in the management of the hospital staff as well as the comprehensive veterinary medical hospital with progressive diagnostic equipment such as digital x-ray, portable cardiac ultrasound, thermal imaging, rigid and flexible endoscopy, and CT scanner. In addition, the Staff Veterinarian conducts animal health related research and provides expertise in medical/husbandry related issues. The individual should demonstrate exemplary leadership and fosters excellence in animal health and welfare thus meeting the mission and goals of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree required; supplemented with two years of experience tending to the clinical medical/surgical case load of an AZA Accredited Zoological Park, supervising technical staff and expertise in nutrition, pathology, and relevant laws; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

In addition to being accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has entered an exciting phase of capital growth with Rosebrough Tiger Passage (2016), Asian Highlands (2019) and most recently Susie's Bear Hollow (2023). Additionally, groundbreaking for the Zoo's newest exhibit, Primate Forest, kicked off construction of the Zoo's largest capital project in its 142-year history. This will include four innovative and interactive spaces - the CrossCountry Mortgage Forest Home, and three distinct animal habitats, Tropical Forest, Orangutan Forest and Gorilla Forest.
