Internship Goal

This 6-month position is designed to expose the intern to many aspects of both general and advanced reproductive techniques.  Along with an emphasis on practical experience, there will also be tutelage and mentorship over the management of mares and stallions, thus giving the intern the knowledge, confidence, and ability to perform and manage reproductive services in future situations.

Duties

The primary responsibilities of this position will involve palpation, ultrasonography, A/I with fresh, cooled, or frozen semen, reproductive evaluations, subfertility management, embryo recovery and transfer, semen collection and processing, and foaling.  Additional exposure and experience will include semen freezing and transvaginal aspiration of oocytes.  Non-reproductive duties will involve general health checks and maintenance of client animals and recipient herd.  This position is designed to do work independently after a period of supervised training.  95% of services are performed at the clinic, however there will be a few cases (5%) requiring farm calls.  Mentorship and collaboration with the doctors here at the facility will always be available.  Case discussions and communication with clients will also be routine.
