WellHaven Veterinary Externship Job Description
Join us for your clinical rotations and see for yourself how we serve patients. Your mentor will be there to help you achieve set learning objectives and introduce you to our approach.
Learn what it’s like to take on cases in a typical small animal practice. With the help of your DVM mentor, you will provide complete physical exams, help manage medical cases and assist and/or perform surgeries. This is your firsthand exposure to how WellHaven treats patients.
You must be enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program and authorized to work in the United States.
Plus, you are eligible for a housing stipend of $250 a week!
In this program, you will:
Receive broad clinical experience under the supervision of experienced veterinarians, including internal medicine, surgery, and any other services the specific hospital offers.
Observe and participate in medical and surgical procedures, diagnostics and their interpretation, and direct client communication when possible.
Our hospital is part of the WellHaven Pet Health (“WellHaven”) network of hospitals. This allows us to have a more extensive and stronger support system, connecting with other hospitals in the area while remaining autonomous.
WellHaven helps veterinarians, and their teams succeed both personally and professionally. We value our medical teams and strive to support each team member each and every day. Our focus on personal growth, practice support, and life balance frame the relationship we want to have with our hospital teams. This people-first approach has made a considerable difference in the lives of our teams, clients, pets, our communities, and the health of our hospitals.
We’ve been recognized in Inc. Magazine for making a difference in our community and in Forbes for being named one of America's Best Startup Employers. It is an exciting time to be part of the WellHaven team and an excellent time for you to consider joining us!

WellHaven was born of the conviction that each veterinary team member and pet parent makes a difference when it comes to the profession as a whole. Because when we all work together, our pets get better care and feel loved. That, to us, is what it’s all about.
Well people, well pets, well practice and well community are what guide us, and are the heart of everything we do.
From that simple concept, our partnerships have grown to more than 40 hospitals throughout five states. And there’s always room for more in the WellHaven family.
