Every year WRC welcomes nearly two dozen veterinary externs, including students from around the world (Brazil, Sweden, China, Portugal, Belgium and Chile just to name a few countries).
Students will spend 40 hrs/week alongside WRC's medical team assisting with intake exams, performing physical exams, administering medications and fluids, restraining patients for procedures, interpreting radiographs and other diagnostics, monitoring anesthesia, assisting with orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, and performing physical therapy.
The Veterinary Externship program is intended only for veterinary students in their final year of veterinary school. Spots are limited and are filled on a first-come basis. Rabies vaccination and a current titer are required. International students are welcome to apply.
The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota (WRC) is the busiest wild animal hospital in the world, admitting 21,000 patients annually. WRC's mission is to release these animals back into the wild. WRC is a non-profit organization that relies greatly on the efforts of volunteers and interns during the busy summer months. Our opportunities provide hands-on experience working with wildlife.
